VENASEAL (TM)

VeinsPlus offers the VenaSeal, the latest advancement for the nonsurgical treatment of varicose veins.

Do you suffer from varicose veins? Or, perhaps you have achy, itchy legs, or legs that burn or feel heavy or restless? If so, you may be one of the millions of men and women who might benefit from the VenaSeal procedure.

VenaSeal is another option for the treatment of large saphenous varicose veins. During the VenaSeal procedure, an ultrasound is used to identify the varicose vein to be treated. A tiny incision is made in the skin over the distal part of the vein. A small catheter is advanced through the skin and into the vein. This will allow the administration of a medical grade adhesive glue to be injected into the varicose vein. After glue is injected into a segment of the varicose vein, pressure is applied to the area to collapse the vein wall. The catheter is pulled back a few centimeters and the next section of the vein is treated similarly. The process is repeated until the entire length of the diseased vein is treated (see video below).

Unlike the endogenous laser ablation or radiofrequency ablation procedures, most patients will not have to wear compression garments after the procedure. We encourage patients to walk frequently after this procedure, but to minimize high impact activities (ie jogging) and weight training with the legs.

As the varicose vein is sealed shut and contracts in size, symptoms will start to improve. Symptom improvement may take days to weeks depending on the size of the varicosities treated.

VenaSeal is covered by many insurances. Prior authorization may be required by some insurances prior to scheduled treatment.
